Oklahoma City Fall Fashion – Suede Skirt and Bow Booties

October 8, 2016 Leave a Comment

Fall is officially in gear! You have to be careful with the fall season because it quickly comes and goes, especially in Oklahoma City. I blinked and we are almost half way through October and I have no pumpkins to show for it.

In OKC, you have to take advantage of the chillier weather, when it’s not way too hot or way too cold, because that’s sadly a rarity. I have been immensely enjoying this fall weather and wearing my favorite fall pieces back to back, or all together, like my suede skirt and bow booties. Switching from my summer to fall wardrobe brings me so much happiness 🙂

I love pulling out my favorites from the previous year to admire and wear again, it’s almost like seeing old friends. My first fall outfits of the year have to be carefully planned and selected with care. If not, I’m afraid I would walk out of the house with one or two fur accessories, a plaid scarf, and a selection of booties to swap out throughout the day. Anyone else with me on this?

So far my favorite look for fall is the combination of different fun textures. In this look I’m wearing a chunky cable knit sweater with a beautiful suede skirt, essentially the two most comfy fabrics ever! This sweater is perfect because it’s cropped and short sleeves so it’s a great transition piece from summer to fall. In Oklahoma, we usually step outside bundled up in the morning and by the evening have taken off as many possible layers as publicly acceptable. The suede on this skirt is so luxurious and definitely will be a keeper this season.

You may be wondering, yes I’m a tad behind on posting this look because my hair is still long in this post. It of course immediately makes me miss it! I always go on a rampage to get my hair cut and without fail regret it. I know I’m not alone in this.

These bow booties have to be one of the cutest pairs I have ever owned. I’m a sucker for bows on anything and think the bows on these booties automatically dress up any look I wear. They are great to pair with an outfit like this, or just basic skinny jeans and a simple long sleeve top. Hold shoes and accessories like this near and dear to your heart because they can be life savers if you don’t know how to dress for an event. Dressy? Casual? Grab pieces that swing both ways!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and go crunch in ALL the leaves with the cutest booties on. Which fall piece are you most excited to pull out of your closet? What’s the weather like in your city?

Updating Your Fall Wardrobe and Blue Suede Romper

September 22, 2016 Leave a Comment

Fall is here!!!!!! Insert a million falling leaves, PSL, pumpkins, and boots emojis!!

I am so excited to do all the stereotypical fall activities, like picking out the perfect pumpkin for my yard. Or, getting a huge PSL, even though I don’t even like the flavor and could never justify the overload of sugar for one drink. But hey, I think it might be a rule that you have to buy at least one! 😉

But the major thing that I love about a new season is a new wardrobe! And this suede romper is to die for this fall and a must for my fall wardrobe. It’s so incredibly comfortable and can be majorly dressed up or down. It’s a great transition piece for day and night. You can run errands in this romper with some flats, then pop on some heels, a statement necklace, and hit the town!

I picked up this romper at R Meyers in Nichols Hills. It’s Aldo Martins, a clothing line from Barcelona. You better believe I’ll be going back for more from this collection because their clothing feels fabulous and you can definitely tell that it’s good quality. That’s huge for me in my fall wardrobe, no crappy sweaters that will get holes in them after one wear. We deserve better, ladies!

For this evening, I paired the romper with my Steve Madden black peep toe booties, which will be hanging around all fall. I also carried my go-to MZ Wallace purse.

After this quick photo session, Colton and I met my parents for some dinner and drinks at La Brasa. This restaurant is arguably one of the best in Oklahoma City. I have talked about it on the blog before, but I just can’t get enough. If you get the opportunity to eat here soon, I’d recommend their half chicken. Like I always say, you can’t beat a wonderfully spiced bird…

Which fall item are you most excited to pull out of your closet this season?

Top Summer Essentials for 100 Degree Weather

June 20, 2016 3 Comments

Hey loves! Today officially starts Summer 2016! WOOHOO!! Tell me, what’s on your fun summer to-do list? I hope a lot of laying out, sipping on fruity indulgent drinks, pool parties with your besties, and lazy days reading the latest must-read books.

Summer is supposed to be a relaxing time and I carry that approach over with my outfits too and wanted to share my summer essentials. I also asked my friends Brooke and Erica, bloggers at Pumps and Pushups , to share their summer essentials with us.

sumer nights

I stock my closet with all the basics and then play with fun accessories.

So what summer basics should you have? Every girl should have some cute shorts in her closet that she feels good in! You know what I’m talking about! The shorts that cover just the right amount of the booty area while still being playful. Not too long, not too short, juuuuust right. Also, you need your neutral tank tops, which I basically live in from June to August. Finally, some wedges and flip flops! That’s basically the standard I wear on 100 degree weekends.

summer essentials

So the fun summer essentials to dress up my basics (besides sunscreen, ladies!!) is…

1) A humongous floppy hat. This accessory is so perfect to throw on when you’re racing out the door. Take the hat with you on any summer vacation, to the pool, or on your lake weekend. Or, perhaps spice up your usual running errands look and add the hat in lieu of your messy bun. As a plus, it covers your face to prevent wrinkles!

2) Something with fringe. Fringe is everywhere this season and will definitely be staying for summer. I think fringe is so playful and adds just the right amount of something special to a basic outfit.

Brooke and I are on the same page in terms of easy shoe wear.
Summer just isn’t complete with the perfect pair of sandals! I always gravitate toward a pair that can be easily dressed up with a cute sun dress or dressed down with a staple pair of denim shorts! – Brooke
Erica makes the good point of getting a bikini that won’t accidentally turn into an uncomfortable family moment… 😉
My summer staple is a classic bikini that stays put. I spend a lot of time at my family’s river house during the summer and the water is pretty murky so light colored bathing suits tend to get dingy after a while. That’s why I tend to gravitate toward black bathing suits for the river! Also I’m a big kid and like to play around in the water so having a bathing suit that won’t fall down when I jump in or stand up is essential. Now that I have a wee one, this feature is even more important since I’ll be carrying her around in it and definitely don’t want anything popping out!! – Erica

Spring Cleaning Closet Clean Out

April 21, 2016 Leave a Comment

closet clean out

Who doesn’t appreciate a nice clean closet? An intensive closet clean out is super important for me to do each year to feel ready for spring and summer! I have a couple steps in my spring cleaning ritual that prepares me for the new season. Not to mention it’s nice to reacquaint yourself with what’s in your closet, even the clothes buried way back in there…

I hope some of these tips will help you in your own closet clean out ðŸ™‚

Closet Clean Out Steps – Spring Cleaning Edition

Step one: Evaluate the winter clothes in your closet and what you really, truthfully wore this year. Make piles of what to keep and what to toss. Did you wear that sweater? Be honest. If you didn’t wear it, toss it!!

But, I really love it and it might come back in trend! Fine, do the test. Assess the quality and look of each piece. Is it high quality and something that will last a long time and come back in style? If so, you’re allowed to keep it one more season and then do the test the following. If it’s yuck quality, and you didn’t even wear it once this year. Give it up girl.

Step Two: Once you have assessed the clothes and have the items that you have fought an inner battle with and chosen to toss, hurry and put it in a trash bag and tie it up, tightly. That way, you won’t be tempted late in the night when you can’t sleep to go extract it from the bag because you just thought of a great way you could wear it. No, just no. If it helps your cause, invite some friends over and drink champagne to help the difficult process of saying bye to clothing items you once loved. I get you.

Step Three: Once you have cleaned out your winter, focus on the spring and summer. Did you wear all the items the prior year, do any stick out that you know you will NEVER wear this season? If so, add it to the unwanted winter trash bag. The next morning bring your trash bags to the nearest clothing donation center and give them away. It will also make you feel good!!

Step Four: Now, you’re feeling much better right? Maybe have a little extra space in your closet? Good, let your clothes breathe and not be crammed together gasping for air. You don’t want them on top of each other getting all wrinkled. Before you pack away or rearrange your winter clothes so that spring and summer is at the forefront, select any of the winter clothes that need to be dry cleaned so they will be ready to go for next season.

Step Five: Speaking of the cleaners, take a look at spring and summer. Any need a clean? Or just a good steam? Steam the wrinkled pieces and then put them in your closet, ready for wear.

I’m also horrified at all my diverse, strange hangers. It’s quite an eclectic group. How did I acquire all of these, am I a hanger thief? Now, this isn’t a step in my process, but I would love to buy nice hangers soon and swap out all my old ones so that they are all nice and the same.

It can be a challenging task to determine what to keep and what to get rid of, but if you didn’t wear it ONCE the whole season, you probably won’t wear it ever again. Be honest with yourself. Get rid of those ick pieces!!

How do you clean your closet? Do you each year or once in a blue moon?

Military Green Jacket and Bow Booties

February 16, 2016 1 Comment

military green jacket

I may be jumping the gun in saying this, but I am so ready for Summer! Yes I know other parts of the country are covered in snow, but I’m ready to pull out my bikini and take a dip. And yes, I’m preparing the bod for that bikini. Who’s with me? It’ll be here before we know it!

military green jacket

Now, let’s talk about this military green jacket from Ecru purchased at R Meyers. This is the perfect transition piece from chilly weather to warm weather. It’s the softest fabric and works with so many different looks, in so many different ways. Pieces like that are worth every penny. It will be perfect to throw over a summery dress when the time arrives, and is great to layer when it’s colder. It has the perfect amount of pockets and a draw string to make it tighter at the waist.

I also just love this color so much! No one can go wrong with military green. It is a neutral in my book. Military style will always be a thing so you might as well get on board. Don’t fight it. Get it?

But I am in no way ready to give up these little booties. I may just have to make these acceptable for summer. Booties are the new flip flops. I wear these babies over and over again, but wouldn’t you? These bows are too cute and make my other brown boots look way too ordinary. I love the clash in styles between the military jacket and then bow booties. Opposites do attract.

Who else is completely ready to kiss the cold weather goodbye? What are your plans for the week? Anything exciting?
