Sweat and Electrolytes + Propel Giveaway

How sweaty do you get during a workout? I’m a huge sweaty mess after almost every workout, but I don’t feel bad about it. I love to sweat and get rid of ick chemicals from my body! Sweating actually makes me feel cleaner – don’t forget to shower right after though so 1) you don’t stink 2) it doesn’t go right back into your body.

Sweating is also a great way to regulate your body’s temperature so you don’t get overheated during a grueling workout.

“Sweat is something you need to do regularly — not just because of the cardiovascular and fat-frying benefits of exercise, but also because of its body-cleansing function. By the way, we can generate as much as a gallon of sweat in two hours.” – Dr Michael Roizen, MD

A gallon?! That just seems a little too much!

It’s important to properly hydrate before, during, and after a workout so that you don’t get dehydrated. Old fashioned water will typically do the trick after a lower intensity workout. However, if you had a calorie crushing, super high intensity workout, it isn’t a bad idea to help your body along in balancing itself back out.

Electrolytes (found in sweat) are super important for you and crucial for healthy body function. When we sweat, we typically lose electrolytes that are important to balance our bodies’ fluids. Electrolytes balance fluids between the inside and outside of the cell environments, which aid in hydration, nerve impulses, muscle function, and pH level. With too few electrolytes, muscle weakness, contractions and cramping are common, which can really hurt a good long workout.

Propel recently launched a product the first of its kind, electrolyte water, to replace what is lost while doing all those burpees and high knees. This is the only water among national enhanced water brands with enough electrolytes to help put back what you lose in sweat. They have 9 unflavored  and flavored electrolyte waters. I have a prize pack of 6 flavors up for grabs!

Do you normally just drink water after a workout, or some type of sports drink?

Stock the Bar Fiesta Themed Party

July 10, 2016 Leave a Comment

Wow! I have the most amazing friends that deserve a shout out for the cutest party ever.  Last night my bridesmaids threw Colton and I a Stock the Bar, fiesta themed. I’m such a lucky lady to have such talented friends that are creative and amazing DIY-ers. I hope they know they just signed themselves up to always do our themed parties. πŸ˜‰ My flower crown was homemade by the sweetest Haley and it was the perfect accessory to add to my outfit! Oh, and they’re great margarita makers too. That’s important. Here’s one of my favorite skinny margarita recipes.

Stock the Bar parties definitely need a fun theme and plenty of food and drink!  And these ladies delivered!

If you are planning a fiesta themed event any time soon, take notes over these adorable festive decorations πŸ™‚ Seemed too good not to share!

Seeing these poofs also brought back visions of Rush and spending hours fluffing up paper! Some of my favorite decorations of the party were the gorgeous flowers, festive colorful poofs, “Fiesta Like There’s No Manana” chalkboard, and glittered Modelo bottles.

We ended the evening with a bang when Colton smashed the heck out of the poor piΓ±ata. I do believe that I really loosened it up though πŸ˜‰ My favorite is to look at everyones’ faces in this photo – friends were pretty impressed! Ha.

I really loved my dress and felt like it was the perfect amount of dressy, but not too dressy, for a Stock the Bar. I also think I may just live in white until the wedding. That’s acceptable right?

Dress is by designer Amy Matto, bought from R Meyers in Nichols Hills. These shoes made me feel very Cinderella-esque. My modern version of a glass slipper πŸ˜‰

Check out our loot! Looks like we will have some entertaining to do soon!

Sauna versus Steam Room

July 9, 2016 Leave a Comment

steam room sauna

Are you more of a steam or sauna room type of lady? Or, do you not really understand the difference between the two? There are pros and cons for both saunas and steam rooms. Overall, both heat rooms are a nice way to relax and it’s mainly about which you prefer – dry or moist heat.

Whether you choose a sauna or steam room, there are therapeutic benefits. When in a heat room, you will feel your mind and body start to relax from the heat in an almost sedative affect. If you have had a particularly hard few months, you may find some emotional relief from a good sweat sesh.

But if you’re looking to lose weight easily…sorry, a heat room won’t do that for you. Don’t trick yourself, this is not an easy lose weight fast option! Sure, if you sweat a lot, you will lose some weight, but it will just be water weight. If you want to lose weight, you have to do it the fair way – good diet and exercise. No shortcuts people! πŸ˜‰

Dependent on your need, here’s a list for you to determine which will help you feel your best! These are just overall claims on the two, but there really isn’t much scientific evidence to back it up, so don’t live and die by these claims.

Sauna:

  • Relaxes your muscles after an intense workout
  • Lowers your blood pressure
  • Better option if you have conditions that can be irritated with humidity
  • Vent to let out humidity and let in fresh air
  • Made with wood
  • Average temperature of 160 – 200 degrees

Steam Room:

  • Overall detoxification of the body
  • Clears congestion
  • Airtight and very humid
  • Made with non-porous materials, like tile or plastic
  • Average temperature of 110-120 degrees

Which option do you prefer? I love the process of getting water and pouring them over the stack of rocks and smelling the deliciousness of the wood in the sauna. In a sauna, there is a vent somewhere in the room that lets out the humidity, while a steam room is airtight. And let me tell ya, it gets pretty steamy in there! I typically just go back and forth between the two.
