New Years Eve Accessories and Makeup Essentials

December 31, 2015 2 Comments

Happy New Years Eve ladies!! Who is as excited as I am to bring in the new year?

2015 definitely did right by me but I cannot wait to start fresh in 2016. It’s a time to reassess what you are doing and what you want to do in the next year. I am a huge fan of making goals and this is the ultimate time to make them, and encourage others to make them!

Some questions I like to bug my friends with on New Years Eve are below. I love to see how different people interpret the questions too. Then, once you hear their answers, be sure and continue to encourage throughout the year to reach those goals!

Who will you be in 2016?
What will you do in 2016?
What will you see in 2016?

Moving on to another favorite part of New Years Eve, the getting ready and beautiful things part! Below are some of my accessories and makeup essentials that I will be taking out with me to celebrate the end of 2015.

New Years Eve Essentials

New Years Eve
Ring: Elizabeth and James/Purse: Stella&Dot/Lip: Nars/Nails:OPI/ Fur:Kelli Kouri/Fragrance:Fresh

I love this little clutch and it’s just the perfect size to fit in my phone, a fragrance, lip color, polish and wallet. Now the odds of me fixing my polish during a night out is slim to none but I do like to bring my color with me while it’s on to fix any chips if the opportunity arises. Nothing looks worse then chipped finger nails. I usually prefer bare nails because I just hate when they chip and I’m not the best about up keep.

Fragrance is essential for a night out. If it’s going to be a long night (which it always is AND should be on New Years Eve) you normally need to apply some more as the night goes on. Careful not to overdo it though! Nothing is worse then drowning in someone’s perfume while speaking with them.

New Years Eve

I just ADORE this ring by Elizabeth and James. It is just adorable and adds some bling without being too blingy. Her line has the best geometric shaped jewelry, which I love and is just beautifully crafted.

New Years Eve

Love Nars matte lipstick! It stays on really well and is just the perfect color for me. It’s just the perfect bright red without being completely overwhelming.

So, I’m dying to hear – What are your goals for 2016?  What are you doing for New Years Eve? What are you wearing?

Christmas Traditions and Trench Coats

December 26, 2015 4 Comments

How was your Christmas? Tell me what you got! Anything super unique, or just the usual basics? I had to do a quick post telling you about my new love…

I’m beyond excited about getting an official camera for blogging purposes! Woohoo! Santa sure was good to me. I definitely have a lot to learn, but I am loving this process and can’t wait to learn more. I thought it was only fitting to start with a photo of me using my new camera.

Here are some of the first photos documented on the Canon Rebel T5i!

We enjoyed Christmas morning at my parent’s house and did our usual Christmas Traditions. Meaning, we drank lots of delicious coffee from cute Santa mugs, saw what Santa brought us, and looked for the hidden pickle ornament.

The Tradition of the German pickle is to have the adults hide the pickle ornament on the tree after all the other ornaments have been hung. After, the kids search the tree and the kid who finds it gets an extra gift from St. Nicholas. This year, I found it! One whole dollar for me! And yes, I still qualify as the kid 😉 Ha. I think it will remain that way until little ones join the family.

I even snuck in some photos under the mistletoe. Colton was more into the elaborate dips versus a smooch but he at least played along!

I’m obsessed with this new trench coat by Michael Kors, purchased at R Meyers in Nichols Hills. You might as well go ahead and get used to this trench because you will be seeing A LOT more of it. Whats so great about this trench is that it will go with everything!! This trench has some great pockets and fun gold zippers. It also actually brings some warmth and wind breaking, which is great for Oklahoma in the fall time and basically any other season because it’s so unpredictable.

Got in some good snuggles and pets with the puppies, King Arthur and Lady Guinevere. These dears officially belong to my parents but I count them as mine too. And, then I got to hang with my niece pups Minnie and Belle. They are all sweet Shelties besides the King who is a fabulous, playful mix of breeds we don’t know. As you can see, Arthur doesn’t like to share any love with the other pups and will bite your hand if you even dare, or he may just be jealous of my beautiful new trench coat!

What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions?

Staying Healthy and Calm During the Holidays

December 23, 2015 3 Comments

Christmas is almost here!!!!! Do you have calm holidays?

When you read that, what feeling first comes to mind? Panic? Excitement? Stress? Happiness?

For most people, I’d guess it would be a nice mixture of all, packaged up nicely with the tiniest of bows. Personally, I’m super excited and not too stressed because holidays are usually pretty simple with my family, and yes I send up prayers for that! The main change this year has come from getting engaged and having to figure how we will split the time, which is always a change. But we are lucky to have both our families fairly close that we can make it happen!

For those of you who may linger more on the stressed and panic feelings, here are a couple tips to keep you calm, collected, and maybe even a little bit cheery!

calm holidays

Now, I have never been huge on essentials oils, but if there was a time to get into them, I’d say the time is right around the holidays and going into the New Year. Evolution Fresh was kind enough to send me some oils from 21 drops, essential oil therapy and I have quite enjoyed these oils. Especially the calm one. Seeing as I can’t ever quiet my mind long enough to relax, this oil does the trick when I need to take a chill pill. Good thing they don’t limit how often you can use it a day because most days I need to take a whiff quite often!

calm holidays

I also received the Detox oil, which I’m saving for the day after NYE, no reason in particular. Ha. What else can you cheers with besides Champagne??

During these more high-stress times I’m sure to always take care of myself by eating well and working out. Just because it’s a little more busy in other arenas of your life doesn’t mean you should give yourself an excuse to eat like crap and skip the gym, continue to stick with your workout schedule! I also make sure that I’m not loading up on too many sugary snacks that seem to permanently be in the office. Christmas cookie tins – leave the premise!!

I do enjoy the Evolution Fresh juices for a jolt of healthy and added energy nearing the end of the work day before I brave the intense, sometimes violent, shopping crowds. When else can you find time to hustle and bustle and Christmas shop? My favorite is the Sweet Greens and Lemon, mmmmmmm. These are also great to keep in the office when you know there are too many tempting goodies around.

Other ways you can stay healthy, calm and collected are by bubble baths. I think that’s a scientific fact. And if it isn’t, it should be. You can find me in the bath tub quite often after a particularly taxing day! I also am in the bad habit of reading while in the bath. I quite enjoy it but I don’t think my poor, wrinkly pages do.

How do you stay calm during the holidays?

Sticking to a Consistent Workout Schedule

December 20, 2015 Leave a Comment

Less then one week until Christmas!!! The best way to keep on track during the upcoming crazy, busy holiday week is by planning a consistent workout schedule and sticking to it, no matter what absurdity occurs. And it will occur.

Create that consistent workout schedule!

consistent workout schedule

You should treat your workout schedule as important as a work deadline, child’s Christmas play, or friend’s holiday get together. This is YOUR time to give your body some much needed attention during a stressful week. Do one better and keep that schedule for months and months. Then your body will crave the workouts and not be dreading them each day. It will simply become another part of your day and create a very positive change in your overall well being.

When we get into a habit of doing something, it becomes much easier. I personally have found that mornings are my best time to workout (besides the one Body Pump class I teach in the evening.) This is time that I know no one can mess with! No one is scheduling 5:30 am events or meetings. I feel like I have outsmarted the system 😉 When I can, I’ll take a walk after work but I just tentatively plan for that and don’t kick myself if I don’t make it happen.

One thing I’m going to start doing is focusing on one body part a day. I have personally never been a fan of that because the more muscles you work, the better the workout in my opinion. However, if you want to really fatigue one muscle, then it’s important to give it a break the next day. Decided I shouldn’t knock it before I tried it. So that will begin to be incorporated into my workout schedule soon and I’ll let you know how it goes!

I prefer to workout at the gym with all the classes that are offered but on crazy weeks if you can’t make it, these are my favorite workouts/videos to do… Popsugar Fitness, my A Latte Lipstick workouts, and Barre3 Online. I have also just started the trial for BBG and am loving it. Think it may become my new obsession. Have you all tried it yet?

What workouts will you NOT miss this week?

Three Ingredient Shortbread Cookies for Santa

December 15, 2015 Leave a Comment

Want to know one of the easiest, yummiest cookies to make? Shortbread cookies.

These shortbread cookies are crumbly, perfectly sweet and great to pair with some warm rich cocoa. I love to add some fun uniqueness to them with sprinkled fresh coffee beans, or colorful sprinkles. The added coffee-ey taste from the coffee beans is delicious, but I also love the brightness the sprinkles bring to the cookie, especially if you have a kiddo! Each option is a good idea!

shortbread cookies

Literally all you need is flour, powdered sugar and butter. So basically, they are ooober healthy, ha! But if any time is the time to ease up just a little on the diet, I would say it is the Christmas season! Make sure to stir well and then it will form into a harder dough. Don’t be alarmed that it’s more dense then usual cookie dough. I also like to add just a pinch of salt. Leave the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before baking.

shortbread cookies

Does your family have a traditional Santa cookie plate? I loved to always set out the cookies and milk before going to bed, and we never stopped that tradition while growing up. Colton and I don’t have an established plate yet, but I think this one might be the winner. It is super cute and shaped as Santa. What’s not to love?

shortbread cookies

Not to brag, but I’m obsessed with our fireplace and definitely love having one! It makes the holiday season that much cozier. Living on the third floor has it perks, like high ceilings and fireplaces. When I someday get to build a house (hopefully) I will have many many fireplaces, maybe even one in each room? Is that a litte much? 🙂

What kind of cookie do you put out for Santa? Do you do that tradition?
