The Perfect Omelette

March 10, 2016 1 Comment

Omelettes are one of my favorite meals to make for dinner. I have many memories of enjoying omelettes as a little girl and constantly sneaking pieces of spicy cheese one by one from a plate before my mom could put it in the omelette. I’ve always been a cheese fiend!

Omelettes are so quick, easy to make, healthy AND don’t break the bank. Not only are they filled with delicious garlicky goodness, but cheesiness too! Key elements for a delicious gourmet omelette are loads of garlic, onions, pepper and a yummy cheese

Now learning the flip had to be one of the hugest challenges for me. How could it be so difficult? My momma finally helped me master what I would like to call “the crucial dramatic flip” a couple of weeks ago. After YEARS of practice. I can’t tell you how many of my good intentioned omelettes turned into awkward scrambled eggs with veggies.

You want to know the secret? Keeping the skillet on low heat, you must move around the skillet to get the uncooked over the cooked so it can be cooked. Does that make sense? Then, once pretty cooked, flip it and let it cook about 30 more seconds.

What does your omelette need to have in it? Do you have a secret ingredient?

How to make dessert taste bad

March 7, 2016 Leave a Comment

Two months done, less than one month to go in the 3 Month Challenge. We have done no alcohol, no dairy, and now it’s no dessert for March. Definitely a challenging month, especially for those with an everlasting sweet tooth, like me. So can dessert ever really taste bad?

Not allowing dessert for a longer amount of time is a really good way to reset any sugary habits and your tolerance of sugar. If I do it long enough, when I allow myself to have those super sweet treats again after the allotted time, they usually taste too sweet and not as good as I remembered them. Honestly, after a while of not eating sugary foods, you will get a stomach ache after eating it. That’s the goal for this month. Make donuts taste bad…let’s see how that goes?!

The thing about dessert is that it’s more of a habit. I am used to getting a sweet treat at the end of the day, like a child. But that shouldn’t be something I’m looking forward to each day. An idea to wake you from your habit? Set an alarm on your phone for the usual time you might slip and gorge on some cookies, brownies, or your chosen sweet, the alarm can wake you from your bad habits and help you realize you don’t need it and that it’s more habitual.

Is any cheating allowed? The one thing I am allowing myself is very dark chocolate, and a small amount. Dark chocolate has many benefits for you and if it’s super dark, it’s good for you. So, I will continue to allow that sparingly. Sometimes when I completely say NO NO NO then I go crazy overeating other things, and I don’t want that. If you have ginourmous meals because you can’t have dessert, you’re really not helping matters.

Have you followed or attempted the challenge? Do you think giving up alcohol, dairy or dessert is harder?

What’s in my Gym Bag?

March 1, 2016 Leave a Comment

When it comes to your gym bag, do you throw in a hundred items and use it like a larger purse, or do you have a few trusty workout items? I absolutely adore my MZ Wallace bag for a large gym bag.

I try to keep my gym bag fairly clean and don’t like it messy! All of my gym bags have compartments that I can zip up my dirty clothing in after a workout. I keep all my personal/makeup items together in one compartment, and then keep my dirty clothes zipped up and ready to remove right when I get home from the gym to be washed. The gym is an equally dirty/fabulous place.

Makeup/personal care items in my gym bag:

Tampons. No explanation needed.

I always break out terribly when I don’t immediately clean my face off after working out. I like to have a toner that I can quickly cleanse my skin with, preferably something with salicylic acid. Then, I like to moisturize because it’s usually super dry and very necessary to put on after cleansing. Makeup remover is also a must so you don’t have mascara dripping down your face in a very frightening way. I prefer to have the wipes for my gym bag versus oil, it’s just more convenient.

Bring deodorant!! Wear it! No one appreciates standing next to someone smelly. I really like Degree’s deodorant, it smells great and truly works. There for awhile I was only using AXE hahaha, I decided I should probably move past my 8th grade boy smelling scent, it just seemed appropriate.

Fitness gear in my gym bag:

Workout gloves are a must for any weight lifter. This is a fairly new purchase for me but has been amazing and helped my heavy weight game tremendously. In the past, my hands would get too sweaty so I would lose grip and they also were super callus-y so the gloves make all the difference!

iPod needed. I really need a new iPod to use, I have seriously had this one since high school! It’s quite a little trusty guy but I am starting to get nervous that it will die unexpectedly and then what am I to do? That’s a group fitness instructors worse nightmare!

I like to have a notepad and pen. Whether I have a grand idea, a fleeting remember to do this!! thought, or am tracking my reps, a pad and pen is always in my bag.

Some type of pain reliever is helpful to have. Sometimes if I’m super sore or have a headache, I like to pop in an Advil prior to my workout so I can get through a good sweat session and not wimp out.

A snack for after or before a workout is a great idea for those who immediately need food after a grueling workout. I’m always famished after a good workout so I love to have a snack I can quickly enjoy after so I’m not tempted to get quick, unhealthy food. One thing not pictured: a hoodie. I always bring something for when I’m cold. No matter the temperature outside, my gym is always freezing inside. I like to be warm and remove after I have warmed up and gotten the sweat going.
