Must-Have Boots to Splurge On for Winter

November 22, 2014 2 Comments

Frosty mornings and chilly nights mean it’s time to pull out those boots! It can be overwhelming to decide which type of boots you should buy and which aren’t quite as necessary. If you aren’t careful you could easily end up with hundreds of pairs of boots! This obviously wouldn’t be a bad thing if your wallet allows, but if it doesn’t…it’s important to know which boots to invest in. Having both casual boots and dressier boots is key. Neutral colors like brown and black is always a safe call.

Purchasing good quality boots over cheapy boots will serve you better long-term. Be sure and spray your boots with water protectant spray before use! Think of this spray as a coat for your boots to keep them dry. Keep your leather boots scuff-free by using baking soda. Dip a damp cloth in baking soda and apply to scuff marks. Splurge on these 6 different types of boots this winter and care for them properly…

Must-Have Winter Boots

  • Every girl needs some casual brown and black boots to wear all winter. Mine are Steve Madden and the quality will last through a couple of rough winter seasons.
  • Cowboy boots are needed to pair quickly with some comfy jeans during fall and winter. I love the added details in cowboy boots, like stitching or pops of color. Cowboy boots should have character!
  • Snow/rain boots to keep your other boots safe when there is too much snow/water on the ground. Don’t wear your other boots out and ruin them! I adore my houndstooth Sorel boots. If there is even a chance of snow I pull these babies out.
  • You will need some nice boots for the work scene. You are safe getting a black and brown pair with a heel or wedge.

What boots are your must-haves for winter?

Sleep Deprived? Try these Four Tips to Get you Snoring

November 21, 2014 4 Comments

Are you one of those lucky people who can go to bed quickly, or is it a challenge?

There is nothing worse than waking up and not being able to go back to sleep. The trick is to stay calm and relaxed. A full fledged freak out won’t help matters. I have some tried and true tips to get you snoring and keep you snoring.

Tips to get you snoring…

Have you ever tried a sleep balm? This balm helps to naturally calm the brain and clear your thoughts to drift you off into a sweet slumber. This product smells delicious and is relaxing without being overpowering. Condition yourself to know that when it’s time to put on the balm, it’s time to put your thoughts to bed.

Bedside notebook. Having a notebook to write in quickly when a thought passes is important so that you don’t feel stressed to remember it the following day. Jot it down and let the thought pass. There is nothing you can do about it at 2 am!

Some nights I wake up and already feel the anxiety of the following day creeping into my consciousness. Reading the bible can help center my thoughts to allow me to drift back off to bed.

Are you just completely uncomfortable? Sometimes you just can’t get comfortable and your body is tight and rigid. Yoga is a great way to clear your head and relax your body. Do some simple poses and breathe in, breathe out.

What tips help you get to bed?

Orange Sherbet Mimosas for Friendsgiving

November 17, 2014 2 Comments

Friendsgiving is one of the best holidays. Not only does it give you an excuse to hang out with sweet friends, but also to enjoy Thanksgiving food not once, but twice a year! We were so lucky to get to make it into a weekend getaway at my sweet friend Haley’s lake house at Tenkiller. Check her out on her blog.

Full weekend of puzzling, DIY-ing (which I happily watched), talking, playing cards, good food and having more than enough laughs.

We bundled up and explored the area. Beautiful changing leaves surrounded us like a fall hug. Little did we know the next day the trees would be covered in snow. Oklahoma keeps us guessing!

We went back in to the cozy house to warm up around the Christmas tree and puzzle.

Enjoyed our fair share of yummy beverages this weekend, as any good girl’s weekend getaway should!

This orange sherbet mimosa takes mimosas to the next level. Rim the glass with sugar for an extra treat. Might as well go all in!

Our Thanksgiving feast was perfect, included: seasoned asparagus, stuffing, rotisserie, cornbread, heavenly mashed potatoes, and classic green bean casserole. Provided a full happy tummy.

Are you having a Friendsgiving this year? What is a must have in your Friendsgiving meal?

3 Day Fruit and Veggie Cleanse

November 14, 2014 2 Comments

What a week it has been so far! I had an awesome shoot for a client exploring the beautiful state of Oklahoma. The breathtaking sights and inspiring Oklahoma talent made for a great shoot!

The only negative was all the tempting delicious treats. I guess that’s not a negative though, it’s a positive if you properly contain your stomach’s enthusiasm. Sleep deprived and hungry, I didn’t do too well and punctuated the end of each day with with a grumbling stomach. What are you feeding me?! … stomach says.

I have decided to do a three day fruit/veggie cleanse! I hope to get all the ick out of my body and the good stuff into it!

What do I hope to see? I want to feel less bloated and gross. I want to feel healthy and strong. And I want healthy glowing skin!

Enjoy many different smoothies – two each day. Then big salad at night full of veggies! Use olive oil and balsamic for dressing. Apples are a great option when very hungry.

Have you done any cleanses lately? Which do you like?
