4 ways to sneak more green into your diet

There are many reasons you should go green, both environmentally and nutritionally! It's even fun to say go green! Everyone, GO GREEN! Here in Oklahoma, the grass is taking going green very seriously and has summoned the rains to continue to fall, non-stop.

Sneak that green into each meal and snack! Leafy greens boost bone strength, heighten immunity, improve brain function and even increase your metabolism! There are countless reasons to go green...consuming your greens is super beneficial to your health and can be done with some easy tips and tricks.

Double the green that is called for in recipes. Especially if the greens are cooked spinach. Spinach shrinks drastically when cooked so I basically add an entire bag of spinach to whatever I'm cooking!

Make Green popsicles! I used Evolution Fresh Sweet Greens and Lemon juice and added 1 1/2 teaspoons of honey to the juice and gave it a good shake. Then I poured into the provided popsicle makers. It served as a great green treat! Perfect for mommas who have to satisfy their kid's sweet tooth for the thousandth time.

When you are in a snack mode, grab a bag of broccolli and munch away! This will fill you up, give you great nutrition, and do the job. Trust me, a bag of brocolli is better than a bag of chocolates! You can buy a microwaveable bag and sprinkle some cheese on top...yum!

Order a side salad with every meal. It starts your meal off right and veggies fill you up quicker than you think! You may even pass on that dessert in the end...ha. Who are we kidding?

What are your tips to get more green in?

A Latte Love for the blog and community

Ever feel like you have so much to say and so much passion and want to shout it all out? Me too.

Blogging has been such an amazing journey and I have immensely enjoyed and continue to love writing A Latte Lipstick! Each week, I look forward to sharing with my fabulous readers!

I have always enjoyed writing and feel that it is a talent to continue finessing every single day. Not only does blogging allow me to do this, but it also provides an outlet to share my other passion for fitness and health. Potentially helping someone live a healthier lifestyle whether it's them trying one of my quick workouts, making a new recipe, or just learning more about eating right and living a healthy lifestyle, I have done what I have set out to do! I only hope to grow in this lofty endeavor!

The community that blogging creates has also been such a delightful surprise! Blogging allows you to not only meet amazing people near you that you wouldn't have met otherwise, but also gives you the opportunity to connect with people across the world. How cool is that?

Six Best Sunscreens for Summer

via

This Memorial Day, please oh please wear sunblock! No matter how tempting a "sun glow" is.

General rule for sunblock, use about a teaspoon for your face and a shot glass for your body. Be sure to apply sunscreen about 30 minutes before exposure to allow it to properly sink in and reapply about every two hours. I know, that seems like a lot of applications, but your 50 year old self will thank you! Protect yourself from future wrinkles, and more importantly, prevent skin cancer!

There is nothing I hate worse then a goopy white smelly sunscreen. Who wants to be a splotchy mess when you are trying to flaunt your new bikini? However, sunscreen is a must! Find options that work best for you!

Here is a list of some of my favorite sunscreens that protect my face, body, hair, and lips from the sun. No matter if you use a spray, lotion, or stick, they all do the job.

Sunscreens that allows perspiration to evaporate without losing its protection is great, because, I sweat in summer's heat! This sunscreen is light and allows your skin to breathe. Great for you athletic sun goddesses! I'll cheers to you from my lounge chair, margarita in hand.

Still unfortunately pasty and in a bathing suit? Try this bronzing sunscreen. It creates a sun-kissed glow quickly!

Protect your lips to keep them kissable with this lip tint that has SPF in it.

Don't want to mess up your makeup?  Use Supergoop! Spray on face to reset makeup and protect skin. Or, you can use a powder or "foundation" with SPF as your face makeup. You can use this tinted sunscreen that works as a foundation!

Now don't forget about your gorgeous hair! Be sure to protect it from dryness and use a hair mist. I like this hair mist. It protects from color fade, dehydration and additionally adds shine and prevents frizz. Score!

Equally important, protect your eyes and wear sunglasses!

Here are some especially great reminders of why you should always wear sunscreen!

Less Selfish More Selfless

Generosity is defined as the quality of being kind, understanding, and not selfish: the quality of being generous.

How are you generous? Do you live generously? Generosity is about giving, whether it is your time, advice, monetary value, etc.

You will always remember those people who were generous to you when it wasn't necessary. Those people who offer their help when the issue at hand has nothing to do them, those people who listen to your latest dilemma for hours until you feel better, those people who constantly give and give. Seek to be those people.

Don’t be generous to be recognized, give generously with abandon, expecting nothing in return. Generosity can be as small as giving that free Starbucks coffee to the person behind you in line, or as large as donating your entire life's work to a cause you believe in. No matter the circumstance, no act of generosity is too small.

Wedding Season is Here! Be the Best Dressed Guest!

Wedding season is upon us. Are you prepared? Along with wedding season comes the stress of finding the perfect dress and just as important, toned arms. But don't worry… it doesn't have to be as hard as you think if you follow some of the trusty fun new trends and arm workouts!

Currently trending are different textures such as accordion pleats and neoprene, according to the always-fashionable R Meyers owner, Cindi Shelby, who also happens to be my awesome mother! Neoprene has come a long way since it first came out and is now quite light. It is a super comfortable fabric that will let you move and get down on the dance floor.

Also in style right now is lots of layering with nudes, whites, creams and blushes. However, if soft colors aren't for you...think island vacation. Tropical florals like hot hibiscus, or deep-sea water like turquoise and teals. Try out these looks for both bridal showers or weddings and you will be stylin'!

Dressing for...

Bridal Showers:
Pretty pastels, neutrals and feminine cuts are perfect for this occasion. Showers are also the time to test out some fun styles that ladies will appreciate it, and not be confused like the male counterparts! Jumpsuits are also coming out in a big way. Women will appreciate the statement you are making!

Weddings:
Summer weddings call for pretty colors, fun cuts and textures. Bohemian looks are still greatly in style so I love the opportunity to wear flowing dresses. Not to mention how it will come in handy if you get a little too full on all the yummy cake! Only rule is not to wear white!

For a quick arm tone up...

Your Gym Bag Must-Haves!

A gym bag is a crucial element in getting yourself to the gym. Especially when it's a daily trip! You go girl!

Whether your gym bag gets you from the gym to work - or from work to gym - you need it to be a trusty bag you can depend on. I have made too many unhappy memories with past gym bags, and I am officially putting an end to it. We are breaking up. Whether it's been finding a soppy wet clean shirt you were planning on wearing after that your water has leaked onto, or somehow losing jewelry in all those huge pockets... A gym bag needs to be more efficient and less upsetting.

My must-haves in a gym bag:

  • Compartments for wet and dry.
  • Small compartment for jewelry.
  • Waterproof/easy to clean.
  • Comfortable to carry.
  • Can be disguised as a purse.
  • Cute. Duh.

Here are some of my favorites that I am considering >>

Nike
I love this bag because it has compartments where you can put your wet and dry items. After a workout I hate throwing my sweaty clothes in with other stuff so these compartments are super important.

Lulu Lemon
Love this bags ability to transform from a sling to a regular carry. Interior zippered pocket for wet clothes.

Victoria Secret
Great idea of zipped shoe compartment at the bottom. Do not want the bottom of my nasty gym shoes getting on my clothes, water bottle, etc!

Long Champ
I know I know this doesn't perfectly count.. but I love Long Champ and they are waterproof! How perfect and inspiring would having this bubblegum pink be your gym bag?!

What's your favorite gym bag? What are your must haves?

Why do you exercise?

I am so excited to be featured as the Oklahoma Women Blogger's featured blogger of the month! Check out my first post below and be sure to finish reading on the Oklahoma Women Bloggers blog!

Why do you exercise? Or, why don't you exercise? Stop and think about it.

We shouldn't be sedentary, because we weren't designed to be sedentary. We were created to move, shake, boogie, and ultimately run from predators who were trying to make us their meal, but that's another story.

You should exercise for the right reasons! If your sole reason for exercise is to lose some lbs, it's not going to happen quickly or enjoyably. You will hit both a mental and physical block. Don't exercise simply to lose weight, exercise for mental and physical health.

If you are new to the exercise world, your first task is to find what kind of exercise you will look forward to doing each day. Working your body should be fun, not torturous. Find an activity that can be your personal play date and make an appointment with (for) yourself.

If you are fighting to push past that aggravating plateau, simply changing it up can drastically change your results. If you're a runner, perhaps try yoga to get more in tune with your body. If you're a pilates advocate, perhaps it's time to add some weights.

Ask yourself some questions to find the best workout, or workout mix up, for you...

Birthday Outfit and Celebrations

Celebrating your birthday is the best, especially when you have the dearest friends and family! Each year I become even more amazed at how fast time passes. As time goes by, the more I realize how important it is to put perspective on your life and really appreciate all those special moments that bless you. Brush off the bad and savor the good! Maybe even don't take life so seriously. (Those are tough words for me.)

As tradition called for, Colton and I went to the Melting Pot on my actual birthday for some delicious chocolate. I don't think anything quite beats chocolate dipped bright red strawberries! Mmmm.

I am lucky enough that the weekend carried over the birthday celebrations. We went to La Brasa for my birthday dinner. La Brasa is a Peruvian restaurant and has the most delicious dishes. The words "Culinary Nirvana" have even been uttered about this place.

It is only appropriate to have a new birthday outfit so I was so pleased that the crazy Oklahoma weather allowed for my planned outfit. This Tracy Reese skirt is accordion pleated all the way down and is the most gorgeous purple color. This piece will be making a lot of appearances this year so I apologize in advance for the multiple wears.

Ended a great birthday week at brunch at the Museum of Art with my fabulous parents and sweet boyfriend! How fabulous is my mother's hat?!

Going into the next year of my life, I am super excited to see what it holds. My goal is to really let go and not be afraid to take chances. Too often I am concerned with planning things out but I really want to learn how to take a step back and let it fall as it will. I can't micromanage my life! I know that God has the best in store for me.

Any helpful life lessons to share??
