5 Sneaky Ways to Stay Healthy at the Workplace

What's your workplace like in terms of being health - conscious? I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that most offices aren't helping your diet.

Sorry to break it to you, but when you sit on your bum all day it can't be fixed with a workout at the end of the day. Research found that being sedentary all day (even with a workout after included) you're still prone to health risks like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, etc. P.S. this is not me giving you an out for your workout ;) But this proves you must get moving during the day!

Moving around helps to ward off snacking cravings too. If you are at a standing desk and putting in some squats, stretches, and perhaps an occasional dance move, chances are you wont be as tempted by sugary office treats.

So don't fear dear, there are many ways you can stay healthy during your work day! Once you get in the habit, it will no longer seem like your even trying and become subconscious! Check out the 5 sneaky ways you can get your body moving and healthy.

5 Sneaky Ways to Stay Healthy

  1. First and foremost, I beg you, don't sit at your desk all day long. Not only do you not burn calories, you also don't have as much energy. You strain your eyes staring at a screen without a break, and overall just have a pretty boring day. Take a breather, walk around the office, take some stairs, or go outside for 5 minutes. It will help your productivity and keep you moving.
  2. Get on your feet! People who have a standing desk burn up to 350 more calories then those who sit all day, in the average eight-hour day. Keyboard should be about elbow height for proper stance.
  3. Say no to treats! When a mass email goes out that says donuts/snacks/etc, hold off at least an hour. Chances are the bad treats will be the only ones left, and who really wants that smushed vanilla cupcake? Chocolate lover, right here. Plus, you won't even want it after waiting a hour. Keep some healthy treats stashed away for when your cravings are yelling.
  4. Break a sweat! Check out FitFusion.com or Barre.com for quick work outs you can do at lunch. Moving helps you center your thoughts, and focus your mind. Mental break, yes please.
  5. Finally, the one piece of advice you can give in almost any situation...Drink water!

  • These really are some great tips! It's just so hard to remember to step away from the desk and walk around. I feel like everyone can get into the zone so easily, and of course, it's a regret later when the pants start to get tight.

  • Great tips! I work in an office and get a short lunch so I had to get creative. I drink a ton of water everyday and every time I use the restroom (we have a single restroom) I do 10 squats of some form. It takes about 30 seconds but it is effective. I've done this for almost 2 years now and it made a HUGE difference for me! I have a short desk, so standing isn't really an option and they don't care at all about health around here haha, so this is what I did and it definitely works for me!

That's a great option! I'll work that into my day too and see how it goes :)
