5 Outfits for the Week

March 4, 2014 2 Comments

Loving your outfits during the work week makes all the difference. But whenever I am spastically getting ready in the morning I cannot feel relaxed to make the dream outfit I would like to wear because I am brushing my teeth, blow drying my hair (on a good day) while grabbing clothes off hangers and guzzling coffee. Hence, not the cutest outfits. Not lack of style, lack of time! So I am going to try to start planning for the week in advance. Here are my outfits for the week.

Manic Monday
BCBG blazer w/shoulder pads and all. Some pleated pink pants paired with black heels. Topped off with Stella and Dot spiked bracelet, also worn by my babe, Sofia Vergara.

Too Tired Tuesday
Next up is my beautiful Calvin Klein cashmere turtleneck with my pink playful skirt. Target scarf over it for outside. Nude pumps.

Wacky Wednesday
My most favorite patterned black and white pants to get me through hump day. Tucked in to my white blouse with some frills. Understated circular necklace that shimmers with tiny rhinestones and black booties.

Terrific Thursday
Almost to Friday! Fun BCBG Emerald Green dress with some sassy leopard shoes. Brown Chan Lu bracelet weaved with green, absolutely obsessed with this bracelet.

Fabulous Friday
Geometric patterned shirt with fun/flirty cut out in the back. Classic black pencil skirt. Grey flats. My Mad Men look.

Which is your favorite outfit of my week?

Mexican Fiesta – 20 Minute Chicken Tacos

March 3, 2014 Leave a Comment

This weekend I made some yummy chicken tacos for my roomies. I had been perusing some recipes and knew that I wanted something packed with a lot of flavor and spicy. Have I mentioned how much I adore spicy?? My tolerance level for spicy foods is pretty impressive. Anyway, it is a pretty quick meal and tastes amazing.

Add garlic & onion to any meal and I have a happy stomach. I always burn my onions slightly to add more flavor, stolen trick from my mother’s delicious cooking. So thankful that I had such a great example of cooking quick and delicious healthy meals when I was growing up. My mother cooks every single meal for my dad and her every single night. If that’s not impressive and inspiring I don’t know what is!

Such a better price and such a better bod when you choose to cook your own food. This meal requires about 2 tsps of olive oil versus about 2 tbsp of butter that I would have consumed if I would have gone to a Mexican restaurant. Plus, I didn’t gorge on chips. Always guilty leaving Mexican restaurants, not to mention uncomfortable! OYE!

Ingredients:

2 Chicken Breasts
1/2 White Onion
Sliced Garlic (about 2 tsp)
1/2 Green Pepper
Cabbage
1/2 cup cilantro
1 Avocado
Tortillas
Black Beans
Salsa
Chili Pepper
Salt
Cumin

In 20 Quick Minutes…
Throw in your chicken to a pan and cook. Chop up your onion, pepper, garlic, cabbage while chicken is cooking. Toss in the onions to brown first, then garlic and peppers. Put your beans on the stove to heat. Add spices on chicken and veggies. Microwave a tortilla, if you feel the need to be fancy you can heat on the stove. Voila! Grab a plate! Put meat and veggies in tortilla, spoon black beans on top. Next comes the colorful cabbage and avocados on top. Salsa to the side. For the total time of 20 minutes.

Purple cabbage is a great way to add some color into your meal

Gettin’ Hott Hott Hott

Sizzle Sizzle

Delicious end product.
It definitely looks more impressive than it should considering how easy it is to make!

Margaritas always included…

And the Winner Goes to…Oscars 2014

March 1, 2014 Leave a Comment

It has always been a tradition and goal to see all of the movies predicted to swoop the Oscars. I absolutely love movies, so it is both a fun challenge and good excuse to see many movies before the big event, The Oscars.

I have seen 4 of the movies so far that I think will deserve an award at the Oscars. However, I must warn you that I am not the harshest movie critic. I have been known to have a new favorite movie every other month. But I think that good movies deserve some hoops and hollers. I couldn’t even imagine the stress/dedication/time that goes into making a movie. Some days, the thought of posting a new status seems like a mountain to climb.

CAUTION: Contain Spoiler Alerts

Her
This movie was incredible and so inspired. I really did not know what to expect with this movie and how I would feel about it. But, I ended up absolutely adoring it. Who knew that you could fall in love with a OS (operating system)? But I did right alongside Theodore, brilliantly played by Joaquin Phoenix. This movie showed how love can be so complicated and truly undefined. No one can define love and this movie demonstrated that notion perfectly, calling you to question love and what love truly means. Another incredible part of this movie was the ungraspable thought that someone could be capable of falling in love with hundreds of people. To humans, we cannot understand or fathom this amount of love. In the end of the movie, the OS has fallen in love with Theodore and over 600 more OSs. This seems impossible to the average human, but not for Her. Her love was unlimited.

August Osage County
I like this movie due to the fact it was filmed in Oklahoma, my home state, and has brilliant acting. But, that’s about it. First off, I didn’t like how Oklahoma was portrayed, flat and dusty. I mean, that is a part of Oklahoma, I will concede, but there is also a lot of beauty here that was not properly shown in the movie. Depressing, too. It was such a messed up family and the ending just kind of left you feeling…I don’t even know the word. Empty? Bleh? Depressed? Neutral? Meryl Streep, though, gosh she was incredible. Along with Julia Roberts and the other Julies. That’s really all I have to say about that. Go Oklahoma!

Frozen
SO SWEET, AMAZING. Took me back to my Disney watching years beside my older sister and our band of many stuffed animals. This movie’s animation was so beautiful. The songs were so memorable and sweet that I all ready want to watch it again. Besides the sweet sister dynamic that I loved (shoutout to my big sees Cat), the end message was fabulous. First Disney movie where in the end she saves herself. The whole Prince Charming concept and saving the beautiful thin helpless princess has been over done. It is time for young girls to see that they can save themselves and not have to wait for their prince. Applause Applause. However, I don’t fiercely believe that the whole prince charming concept is as terrible as some women make it out to be. Don’t we all save each other in some way? Also, I am a feminist so I get where they are coming from but it’s a sweet animated movie not a well thought out theory to live by, so lay off the old classics. However, make no mistake I am happy that they made this ending too. Girl Power!

American Hustle
Such a great cast. I love Jennifer Lawrence, like every other woman, because she is real and fabulous. She is just so likeable outside of acting and so great at acting that there really is no reason no one should not like her. Amy Adams was awesome to watch. That girl can play every type, from a princess in Enchanted, to a bartender in Fighter, to a diva in American Hustle. The story line was also really fun. I would totally do that if 1) I could get away with it 2) I wouldn’t feel so guilty. I also liked how the end was such a twist, I did not see that coming. Also, the fact that it was a true story adds a whole other exciting element.

All 4 movies were great in their own way and so different from the other. We have a futuristic, a depressing, an animated, and a twisted drama. Can’t wait for the Oscars.

Besides the actual awards part, I am anxiously awaiting to see what everyone wears! Will definitely be discussing that later!
