Post Workout Feasting Frenzy

March 13, 2014 Leave a Comment

So you worked out huh? Great job! You did something good for your body today and for your health tomorrow.

Now don’t go crazy treatin’ yourself! Too many people make that mistake after a draining work out. People think, hmm I did weights for 30 minutes so I deserve a ginormous piece of cake. NO! You deserve to see results, and possibly a massage from a loving other, but don’t take back what you just worked hard for! It becomes a total waste of time, and we don’t have time for that do we?

Usually after a difficult workout people are hungry and make the quick mistake of grabbing whatever is nearby, no matter the calories or nutritional value. But, that can be helped! Always have a quick snack ready for you after a work out if you typically fall into this trap.

Below are the snacks that I almost always have in the kitchen ready for me after a workout. When I go to the gym after a work day I’m famished and exhausted by the time I arrive home, so having these snacks on hand is a huge help and way to prevent a feasting frenzy.

Favorite Healthy Snacks after a Work Out:

Protein Balls

Veggies and Hummus

PB and Banana

Feel better? Good!

What snacks do you like to eat after a workout?

Spring Time Fashion

March 11, 2014 Leave a Comment

Spring is in the air and I could not be more excited… because along with Spring comes Spring Fashion! Time to put away those oversized sweaters and go-to leggings and freshen up with pastel dresses, sporty jackets, crop tops and much more. Also time to get some sun kissed skin. NO tanning beds, ladies!!

Last year everything you saw was turquoise but this year pastels and florals are popping up everywhere. Flowy blush skirts are in every magazine and many celebs have all ready been jumping on the trend. Pretty in pink.

Menswear is in. Think shrunken vests, pin stripes, fedoras and glen plaid. I can’t wait to purchase my very own glen plaid vest. I’m going to pair it with a white billowy blouse and black pants for work. Solid outfit.

The late 60’s Mod look is also coming in hot! I’m dreaming of neon colors, shift dresses, and a-lines. A-line shapes usually flatter most women but you have to be careful to have it fit you correctly at the waist or it could end up a big mess. Joan and Betty can serve as my fashion icons this Spring.

Crunches time! New silhouettes coming in. Get ready for the waist lines raising along with tops. Bare midriff is back! Last time it was in I had an amazing 6-pack due to the fact I was like 10 years old. Dang puberty 😉

One other thing I am very excited about are kitten heels. I absolutely adore heels but by the time the day is over I have a newfound hatred for the things I passionately adored hours before. Kitten heels gives me the opportunity to elongate my legs, feel confident, and add some height without brutally paining my tootsies. Very pleased to see these coming back.

Just-Because-I-Want-To List

March 9, 2014 Leave a Comment

Choose what makes you happy and do it. After all, you only have one chance and you are meant to Enjoy Your Life.

Each day I have the usual things on my to-do list: work deadlines, bills, club events, errands, etc. These are the things that I must get done, while I let other things that are equally necessary just slip away. What makes one item more important than the other to you? How do you label things on your To-Do List?

Sometimes the most important things you should be doing are not necessarily a “top tier item” on the To-Do List, but these important things should be on your list in order to improve your quality of life and make you a happier person. It is your responsibility to make sure you make those things that make you happy happen even if they are not the number one on your To-Do List. If you have to wear that one top that you wore last week again because you couldn’t make it to the dry cleaner this week, it’s not the end of the world. That extra hour laughing with a good friend is always worth it.

Necessities are important so that you live an organized productive life but they should not be the only thing driving your life. For instance you have to work to make money, have to do laundry to have clean clothes, have to workout to stay in shape, but then there grows to be a problem if you do not put purely fun things on your list too. We should enjoy our lives and not only do the necessities on our to-do lists. Sometimes pull something from you Just-Because-I-Want-To List.

To-Do List
– Get clothes tailored
– Pay bills
– Run errands
– Deadlines for clients
– After-work engagements
– Meetings

Just-Because-I-Want-To List
– Make a yummy dinner
– Read with a cup of coffee
– Snuggle with my boy
– Happy hour with friends
– Enjoy some wine

What should you add to your Just-Because-I-Want-To List?

Tone the Tush – 20 Minute Workout

March 8, 2014 Leave a Comment

Tushes come in all shapes and sizes. So no matter if your tush is flat and needs some perking up, or if it inspired I Like Big Butts lyrics and needs some tightening, this exercise will help get you there.

There are so many different muscles in the backside that do not properly get worked out by doing the typical workout moves. Neglecting any part of the muscle will not give you the desired end result. Therefore, this workout attacks from all angles. You’ll be ready to shimmy and shake in no time.

Always remember that genetics is a huge part of the shape of your tush. So make the best out of your tush. Embrace it and work it to live up to its very best potential!

There are three main muscles to know about to get the desired tush

  • Gluteous Maximus
  • Gluteous Medius
  • Gluteous Minimus

Surprising as it is, I am not a professional so I am not going to begin to try to explain exactly which and where each of these muscles are, but I do know it is important to do both abduction and extension work out moves to tone all of these attention-hogging muscles.

This workout combines cardio and strength, as all my workout do. Go through it twice for a 25 min workout or Go For It 4x for 50 minutes. Oh yeah!

Tone the Tush

Strength Cardio Duration
Deadlifts Fast Squats 1 Min Each
Leg Lifts (L) Jumping Squats 1 min Each
Bridge Lifts High Knees 1 min Each
Leg Lifts (R) Single Leg Burpees 1 min Each
Superman Mtn Climbers 1 min Each
Squat Leg Lift (L) High Kicks 1 min Each

Deadlifts Leg lifts
Bridge Lifts Superman
Squat Side Lift (Step1)

Squat Side Lift (Step2)

Skin Care Regimen to Begin

March 6, 2014 2 Comments

Its a weird thing, getting older. I am beginning to have the first realizations of this fact.

For instance…

  • When I wake up I look… rough
  • Sometimes a night out sounds dreadful
  • Don’t bounce back quickly after a couple too many beverages
  • Sleeping on the floor results in pain

And if I ever doubt this fact, Facebook will quickly put me in my place with a steady stream of recurring engagements, high rollin’ friends with important jobs, and even sprinkle in a few babies. It is happening.

So with this new realization, along came the consciousness that I needed to start adding some steps to my bedtime routine to ward off wrinkles. The faintest wrinkles are all ready showing! Smile lines will get to me first. With the sudden awareness, I realized how important it is for me to take care of my skin now, rather than later. My grandmother and my mother had/have absolutely beautiful skin. I definitely want to be a part of that club when I’m older. So I am going to begin a nightly skin care regimen.

First step, is finding the right product. I need to decide if this is the type of thing I should actually splurge on with well renowned creams or if the cheap products will work just as well for me at this age? (If anyone has good insights I would love to hear your opinions).

I have set out to test products that have good reviews, and a lovely reputation in the skin care world. I want a cream that is not too greasy and wont dreadfully break out my skin (my skin is sensitive to anything and everything).

Babor

Olay

Neutrogena
